A new branch of Smyths Toys Superstores is opening at a retail park in Stockport.
Posters signalling the arrival of the retailer have been put in the window of a unit at Stockport Retail Park, formerly known as The Peel Centre.
Smyths will take over the site formerly occupied by H&M.
Residents are delighted, saying ‘finally a decent toy shop in Stockport’.
They will no longer have to travel to the Smyths stores elsewhere in the region.
Its other sites are in Oldham, Bury, Bolton, Salford and Wigan.
Ryan Adolpho shared a photo of the new site in a local Facebook group and hundreds of people reacted, with many welcoming the news.
“About time, we need a toy shop. It’s not the same shopping online,” said one.
While another added: “This will be brilliant! No need to travel to Eccles / Bury.”
However parents did comment on how their shopping trips may well end up costing them more if they’re out with their children.
“That’s me going to be skint for the rest of my life,” said one.
“My peaceful trips to Costa are a thing of the past now,” said another. “My two-year-old will lose her mind if we don’t go every time she sees it.”
Dad Ryan, whose sons are eight and six, said it’s just what the retail park needs.
“My sons are ecstatic,” he said. “It’s weird as I was saying to my husband at the weekend we need a Smyths and then following day I see it in the window. There are loads of happy people as we don’t need to drive elsewhere.”
