Travel Republic is offering holidaymakers new cover if they need to cancel their trip because of Covid-19 under a new ‘Holiday Promise’ scheme.
The online travel agent says that every new package holiday booked which includes a flight and hotel will come with Covid Cover Plus, offering protection across a range of scenarios.
For example, holidaymakers will be covered if they, their travel companion or anyone they have arranged to stay with during the trip falls sick or tests positive for Covid-19 within 14 days of their departure date.
Other scenarios also include if you are admitted to hospital due to coronavirus within 28 days of the start of your trip, or if you/a travel companion are denied boarding following a positive coronavirus test.
However, it’s worth noting that the promise won’t cover you if the FCDO changes its travel advice to your destination. (We have a guide on what happens in this situation if you have a holiday booked).
It’s not just Covid-19 cover that’s included under the new promise.
Travel Republic has also committed to issuing refunds within 14 days, a price match guarantee, flexible bookings up to seven days before departure, ABTA and ATOL Protection, and ease of contact with the team by phone.
During the pandemic, some travel firms have been adapting their policies in order to include more flexibility for those whose holidays are affected by Covid-19 and travel restrictions.
For example, earlier this year Jet2 launched a new travel insurance policy which includes cover for holidaymakers if the Foreign Office changes travel advice to their destination. The firm already offered policies specific to Covid-19 but the new policy will mean Brits are covered if new restrictions are put in place.
- During the coronavirus pandemic, countries may be subject to a change in travel restrictions. Always check the latest FCDO advice for your chosen destination before planning, booking, or going on a trip.
